Membership and Budget:

Jack Dovidio presented the Division 8 membership report, highlighting the steady decline across several years. The Final 2011 Budget Report was reviewed. Three changes to the 2012 Budget were proposed: (a) Projected income from dues was reduced by $250 because of the decline in Division 8 membership; (b) Funds supporting the social hours at the 2012 APA Convention was reduced from $1,750 to $1,200, reflecting what Ashby Plant (Division 8 Program Chair) requested; and (c) Program reserve funds for special events were reduced from $2,800 to $2,000. These proposed budget changes were approved by a vote of 11-0-0.

These three budget changes, plus the reduction of the budget for CASAP Dues from $350 to $100 (from the August 2011 meeting) are reflected in the revised budget.

APA Division 8 Council of Representatives Report:

Paula Pietromonaco indicated that the main issues to consider were described in her written report. These issues included APA’s (a) revisions of the Life Status/Dues Exempt Membership Category, (b) changes to the structure of the APA Convention Program, (c) approval of the report of the Presidential Task Force on Caregiving, and (d) adoption of a new APA policy on Principles for Quality Undergraduate Education in Psychology, (e) adoption of a Resolution on Advocacy of Psychology as a STEM Discipline, and (f) adoption of a resolution supporting marriage equality for same-sex couples.

Paula also recommended that SPSP defer action on the initiative to annul the 2005 Report of the Presidential Task Force on Psychological Ethics and National Security (the PENS Report) until the August 2012 Executive Committee Meeting.

The Division 8 meeting was adjourned at 8:55 AM.
