SPSP has worked to promote social and personality psychology, disseminate knowledge to the field and public, and provide opportunities to its members in 2015. In the last year we have introduced new awards to support more members of the social and personality psychology field, including the Teacher/Scholar Travel Awards to support convention attendance of members who work exclusively with undergraduate students. We have also updated our web presence, with an upgraded website and a new, online, members-only community. None of this would be possible without support from SPSP’s members.

The Society is excited to implement even more new changes and innovations moving into 2016.  The 2016 convention will have new programming including sessions on professional development, panel discussions, and more.

We will also continue to refine and expand our new, online network SPSP Connect! In 2016 we will be launching new Shared Interest Groups to connect SPSP members with specific research specializations interests.

Keep an eye out for these new programs being introduced in 2016!

Application of Personality and Social Psychology Award

The Application of Personality and Social Psychology Award honors a social or personality psychologist who has applied theoretical and/or empirical psychological discoveries and advances to the understanding and improvement of important practical problems. This could include working with organizations, government agencies, or industry.

Legacy Award

The Annual Convention Legacy honoree will be selected each year by the SPSP Convention Committee. This program honors luminary figures in social and personality psychology. The theme of Legacy program is to trace the impact of the senior scholar’s seminal contribution (or body of work) to contemporary work through a series of events as follows.

Summer Program for Undergraduate Research (SPUR)

The under-representation of ethnic minorities in social psychology limits the range of voices represented within our science. SPUR is designed to provide an opportunity for such students to work in an active lab in an area they do not have access to. Participating students conduct research and research-related activities full-time for 8 weeks.

SPSP Small Research Grants Program

The Society for Personality and Social Psychology launched the inaugural edition of the SPSP Small Research Grants program in 2015 to provide funding for SPSP members who work at institutions that do not provide financial support for research. These grants are intended to support relatively inexpensive, well-powered studies that, if successful, will be submitted for publication and for presentation at the SPSP convention.
