The Society for Personality and Social Psychology has been deeply saddened by the recent, unprecedented attack against Israel initiated by Hamas and the devastating impact on the region and the globe. We condemn the actions that have led to this horrific loss of life and our thoughts are with innocent Israelis and Palestinians who are affected by this ongoing violence. This is a time of immense grief, fear, and frustration, and SPSP is as committed as ever to studying and advocating against racism and religious prejudice. We strongly condemn the hateful attitudes and actions that traumatize, dehumanize, and kill, and stand in solidarity with our colleagues and fellow SPSP members in the region and their families, friends, and allies all over the world.

As personality and social psychologists, we work to understand relationships and our connections to one another as human beings. Strengthening that connection and focusing on our shared humanity is especially important during these times of conflict, as is supporting those who are directly affected during this time of grief and uncertainty.

While we reflect on how psychology might offer some measure of comfort amid the heartbreak, we would like to share this collection of APA resources that shed light on navigating grief and this statement that APA has distributed. SPSP remains committed to improving society through our research, advocacy, and outreach. We must continue striving to understand and identify with one another.

Best,
